Subject: When provenance speaks louder than metrics.

A few days ago, we read a line on LinkedIn that stopped us cold.

Not loud.
Not viral.
Just precise.

Three words that hit harder than a thousand metrics:

Hard to fake the funk.

1. Where This Signal Came From

The line came from Klim Kozinevich,
founder of Bigshot and NOUNworks.

In a short post, Klim wrote something that felt painfully familiar:

“Over the past 20+ years our work has been featured in dozens of physical publications and hundreds of web articles and stories that go pre Instagram and X.
In this AI-generated, timelines-filled-with-fake-engagement-numbers world, provenance and experience matter more than ever.”

We couldn’t agree more.

2. The Era of Looking Relevant

We live in a moment where it’s never been easier to look important.

Inflated numbers.
Paid likes.
Artificial applause.

Presence without trajectory.
Stories without lived experience.

Everything looks impressive.
Very little feels earned.

And that’s exactly why that line hit.

3. The Rule That Refuses to Break

Because there’s a rule no algorithm has managed to hack:

Experience can’t be faked.
Memory can’t be bought.
Legacy doesn’t come from shortcuts.

You can manufacture attention.
You cannot manufacture time.

And culture, real culture, only exists where time has left a trace.

4. Before the Feed Ate the Archive

Before Instagram and X flattened everything into “now,”
culture lived elsewhere.

In books.
In
magazines.
In
catalogs, interviews, essays.

In physical publications and early web archives where work was placed in time, debated, contextualized.

That’s where provenance was built.
That’s where meaning accumulated.

That’s where Movements took root.

5. Why This Matters to ArT Toy Culture

When everything lives only in the feed, history becomes fragile.

Easy to erase.
Easy to rewrite.
Easy to fake.

That’s why provenance matters more than ever.
That’s why experience outweighs metrics.
That’s why memory beats momentum.

Paper or digital…it doesn’t matter.
What matters is verifiable memory, not noise.

Because without shared memory, there is no culture.
Only consumption.

And because, in the end,
the authentic always finds a way to remain.

Hard to fake the funk.

If this resonates with you, you’re already part of the conversation...
